Historical Timeline of the Artemivsk Distillery

The Artemivsky Distillery was founded in 1840 in the village of Artemivka, near the settlement of Merefa (now the city of Merefa, Kharkiv region). Since then, we have undergone a long journey of development, overcoming challenges and continuously improving our technologies.

  • 1839-1841:

One of the oldest enterprises in Merefa is the Artemivsky Distillery, located in the picturesque village of Artemivka. The exact founding date of the distillery is unknown, but records indicate it was built between 1839 and 1840. According to the Kharkiv Regional Archive, steam wine production (a fortified wine with 40% alcohol) took place at the Artemivska Sloboda distillery in the Kharkiv district of Merefa from 1840 to 1841.

  • 1896:

A glass factory was built next to the distillery to produce packaging, demonstrating the company’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to production.

  • 1914–1920:

Following the outbreak of World War I and the introduction of a ban on alcohol production, the distillery temporarily ceased operations but was successfully restored after the end of hostilities.

  • 1928:

Artemivka, along with all its enterprises, was incorporated into the city of Merefa, where the distillery became one of the largest industrial facilities.

  • During the Great Patriotic War (1941–1943):

The plant was destroyed, but during the post-war period, it was fully restored and resumed operations.

  • Soviet Period:

Under state administration, the distillery remained one of the key enterprises in the region, supplying the country with high-quality alcohol.

  • 1995:

After Ukraine declared independence, the distillery was transferred to the jurisdiction of the State Committee for the Food Industry and later became part of the Ukrspirt concern.

  • 2002:

A milestone in the distillery’s history — over 346,600 decaliters of alcohol were produced, along with 713 tons of carbon dioxide and 48.2 tons of enzymes.

  • 2008:

Following Ukraine’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the distillery underwent HACCP certification, marking an important step toward international recognition of our product quality.

  • 2010–2016:

Although this period was marked by economic crises and temporary difficulties, in 2016, the distillery resumed operations, opening a new chapter in its history.

  • 2021:

Major reconstruction and modernization of production became a turning point. We upgraded our equipment, implemented modern technologies, and significantly improved environmental performance.
